Websites are your businesses silent sales person, it is the first place a potential customer will go to check you out – the type of work you do, who your other clients are, what awards you have won, your credentials and quality accreditation. It is the first step your business will take to illustrate your integrity and build trust with a potential client.
Existing customers use it for updated information and purchases. You cannot afford to have an out of date, slow or off-brand website. It speaks volumes about who you are. It is your key contact point and it needs to be vibrant, all about you and your business and it needs to work well to accurately reflect you and your business. It must work smoothly and intuitively for the user, bringing them to the information they require within two or at most three clicks.
The latest stats from The Department of Communications, Climate Actions & Environment show that the Digital Economy:
• Is growing at approximately 40% since 2012.
• Is expected to expand to about €21.4 billion or 7.9% of GDP by 2020.
• Irish consumers spend around €850,000 per hour online, 24 hours a day, which represents more
than a 20% increase since 2012.
• Irish consumers expect this to grow by 25% in the next 3 – 5 years.
Unless you are a design company – like us – it is not going to be your areas of expertise and unless you are a ‘digital native’ – like your children – online activity may seem daunting. Like getting the image and marketing right for your company, a website is something that needs expert support. And that requires investment.
There is help at hand though, as the Department of Communications, Energy & Natural Resources has launched a Trading Online Voucher Programme to the value of €2,500, and has teamed up with the Local Enterprise Offices to deliver this to Irish business. TOTEM can hold your hand through the process by advising you on the next course of action to apply for the grant, our award winning team can design and build your e-commerce website and we can help you plan and implement your Digital Marketing Strategy to help maximise your online presence.
Oren Little, then Marketing Manager of Theatre Royal Waterford, used her voucher to create a Digital Marketing Strategy, “Though we were already trading online very effectively, we wanted to concentrate on understanding the behaviour of our customers and to up our game online. We got great insights into best practice, how our competitors were doing and what we needed to do right. Not only that but we also got training on areas that I felt we needed more support online, and a step by step manual on what exactly to do. It was a valuable experience with great results”.
What you need to know first about fitting the profile for the voucher:
• The vouchers are targeted at businesses with the following profile:
• Limited Online Trading presence
• Less than 10 employees
• Turnover less than €2m
• Applicant business must be registered and trading for at least 12 months
