PANTONE, the global colour authority, has announced that PANTONE 18-3224 Radiant Orchid, a captivating, magical, enigmatic purple, as the colour of the year for 2014.

While in 2013 Emerald served as a symbol of growth, renewal and prosperity, Radiant Orchid reaches across the colour wheel to intrigue the eye and spark the imagination. Leatrice Eiseman, executive director of the Pantone Color Institute, said that the colour of 2014 is “An invitation to innovation, Radiant Orchid encourages expanded creativity and originality, which is increasingly valued in today’s society.”

This colour is already having an impact in fashion, beauty and interior design. Fashion designers like Max Mara, Marc Jacobs and Salvatore Ferragamo have been incorporating orchid hues into their collections. It remains to be seen how purple will effect graphic design trends both online and off line in this year.

Ultimately, there really aren’t any rules as “Radiant Orchid is a colour for everyone.” As I prove here with my bang on trend “Wonka” Jacket : )
