OUR DEFINITION OF SUSTAINABILITY
For us, sustainability focuses on ensuring that our business activities have minimal impact on the environment. We ensure this by implementing a hybrid working model, delivering our services remotely whenever possible and partnering with local, community led organisations to better the world around us.

At TOTEM, the following sustainability guiding principles provide us with the guidance and direction:

PERFORMANCE TO DATE
We monitor our environmental performance to help ourselves and our clients understand and appreciate the changes we are continuously making. To date we have made the following progress:
- Employees are work from home by choice
- Use the most-up-date, energy efficient equipment
- Implement switch-off policy when equipment not in use
- Heating is not utilized from May-September
- Utilize natural light as primary source of working light
- Most clients sessions are carried out remotely to reduce impacts of transportation
- We continually reuse printer paper
- Encourage employees to reduce, reuse recycle.
- Client files are stored electronically to reduce paper use and waste.
- We implement a ‘File and Delete’/End of Project policy to reduce both digital and physical collateral.
- Where possible, we partner with suppliers who instil a sustainability ethos within their own business.
- We continually partner with volunteer/charity groups on various projects on a pro-bono basis.
- We encourage our team to upskill and train in sustainable best practice in design.
- Encourage teams member in the participation in steering a framework for best practice environmental design management strategies that would actively reduce ghg emissions and resource use linked to designs.
